What to expect from the 2019/2020 Premiership Rugby Season
What a time to be alive… We are all thoroughly being entertained with the ongoing Rugby World Cup and as if that wasn’t enough… The Gallagher Premiership is back this Friday night!
Depth of all squads will be tested in the opening games of the season with the RWC still in action and those players who represent their countries will still be involved with Quarter Final matches and hopefully more depending on results.
However, this year like every other year will be a great battle. With the game ever changing and modernising, the fitness and capabilities of players increasing, the talent and depth of all squads is rising. How are clubs going to adapt to the new tackling laws which have been controversial in the World Cup? These are all aspects which will make for a spectacular season!
While Saracens are the reining champions after defeating Exeter Chiefs in the 2018/19 campaign Final staged at Twickenham, in my opinion the tables may turn this year and I think Exeter Chiefs will be favourites this time round. The Chiefs already have a fantastic squad without a doubt. Scottish Full Back Stuart Hogg will be looking to make an impact in the starting line-up. Henry Slade, Jack Nowell, and Stuart Hogg are set to have a dynamic season together on the back line.
However, you cannot write Saracens off. A big pack of fierce experienced forwards such as the Vunipola brothers, Jamie George, George Kruis, and Maro Itoje. Elliot Daly will also be hoping to make an impact following his recent transfer from Wasps. He will gel quite nicely with Owen Farrell, Liam Williams (Welsh) and Alex Goode.
Gloucester and Saints Out for Revenge…
Gloucester and Northampton both losing in the semi finals of last year’s campaign will be looking to equal or even better their previous season. Danny Cipriani and the Gloucester team will be buzzing to make a start on a big season for the West Country side. As for Northampton Saints it will be the same story. Dan Biggar (Welsh Fly Half) will certainly be looking to direct his team to the final four.
