STSW was established in 1982 under the personal supervision of Mike Gee, initially arranging tours only to Cornwall which soon progressed to specialising touring all over the UK, Ireland and Europe.
Mike has a lifetime involved with sport. He played rugby from the early 1960s, for his club St Ives in Cornwall, when he eventually hung his boots up he became involved in the administration at the club. He has also served in several posts on the Cornwall RFU committee. He recently was awarded a life membership at St Ives RFC and made an honorary vice-president of Cornwall Rugby Football Union.
Mike has recently retired from his voluntary positions within the South West and National RFU in May 2024. Since 1987 he was a member of the South West Division of the Rugby Football Union and since 1995 was the Co-ordinating Secretary for the Division’s Competitions Committee and Registrar. He had been the longest-serving member of the Competitions Committee of the Rugby Football Union at national level and has served on several national sub committees and task groups involving competitive rugby. In the 2015 Queens birthday honours list Mike was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to Rugby Football in the South West. Mike has accumulated an enormous number of contacts throughout the rugby world and over the last 40 years a large portfolio of accommodation, transport and activity providers.
In 2006 Nicola, Mikes daughter joined STSW as senior tour administrator. Nicola is the main point of contact for all our tour group leaders, always on hand day and night for any questions, information they require. She has three active, sport loving children and spends many hours, evenings and weekends, enabling them to participate with their individual sports ranging from rugby, netball, athletics, parkruns you name it they have done it. Nicola has arranged her own children’s tours ensuring their groups, players, parents and spectators have the best time. She sees first hand that the best, long lasting friends are the ones you share the same passion with and touring is a great bonding experience for all. Nicola has been involved with a local rugby club for over 15 years serving as their mini, junior and senior fixture secretary.
Nicola and Mike have recently joined a business partnership at Sports Travel South West. Their wealth of knowledge and expertise they have to offer is second to none. Tours are tailor made to each club’s personal requirements.
