Guinness Pro12 transforms into Guinness Pro 14 with additional of 2 more teams

With the arrival of 2 teams from South Africa (Toyota Cheetahs and Southern Kings) the Guinness Pro 12 has become the Guinness Pro 14 – enjoy 152 games between now and May next year.

The addition of these teams means that the tournament will adopt a conference format whereby new teams can join, without the need to add extra rounds. The conference system will introduce one of the most exciting changes to the Guinness Pro14 final series yet which will now see 6 teams qualify for the knockout stages providing the opportunity for more teams to qualify for the title. As there is a high number of teams, they will be split into two conferences of 7.

The 6 teams who reach the Guinness pro 14 final series will automatically qualify for the Champions Cup – the South african teams are not eligible to; qualify for Europe, so they will be removed the rankings and replaced by the team below them.

But don’t panic – you may have noticed that your side is not listed in the same conference as your rival team (e.g Scarlets and Cardiff Blues). They will play each other despite being in a different conference on Judgement Day.
