Exeter chiefs conquer over wasps to become premiership champions in nail-biting match that went to a dramatic extra-time battle.
As the teams were on level-pegging, extra time of 10 minutes each way saw Exeter’s Gareth Steenson score a penalty kick that secured the title for the club, bringing the final score to 23:20 in the 98th minute of play.
Faced with challenging conditions of high temperatures, both clubs delivered an entertaining and high standard of play.
The Exeter side played an impressive match in the first half, leading 14-3 thanks to tries from Phill Dollman and Jack Nowell. However, the Wasps side evened out the score with quick successive tries from Elliot Daly and Jimmy Gopperth. At the end of the second half the score was locked at 20:20, warranting extra time to decide the victors.
A confident penalty from Steeson sealed the match and the Premiership for Exeter, making the final score 23:20.
Man of the match was awarded to Don Armand who was noticeably emotional in a post-match interview where he said ‘I never thought I’d see days like this’.
