Sports Travel South West was established in 1982 under the personal supervision of Mike Gee. Before this he was arranging tours to the South West on behalf of a national company – when that ceased operating he set up Sports Travel South West to cater for clubs wishing to visit the South West of England.
Mike has a lifetime involved with sport. He played over 500 games, starting in the early 1960s, for his club St Ives and when he eventually hung his boots up he became involved in the administration at the club – initially as fixture secretary then later club secretary. He has served on the Cornwall RFU committee and is still fixture secretary for a local club and also in the close season arranges fixtures for other Cornish clubs.
Since 1987 he has been a member of the South West Division of the Rugby Football Union and since 1995 has been the Co-ordinating Secretary for the Division’s Competitions Committee and Registrar.
He is currently the longest serving member of the Competitions Committee of the Rugby Football Union at national level and has served on several national sub committees and task groups involving competitive rugby.
In the 2015 Queens birthday honours list Mike was awarded the British Empire Medal for services to Rugby Football in the South West
Over the past half a century Mike has accumulated an enormous number of contacts throughout the rugby world and over the last 30 years a large portfolio of suitable hotels and coach companies.
