Just over 4,000 miles away, floating in the waters just off South America there sits a small group of island nations – 28 to be precise. These island countries go by the name of the Caribbean, one of these islands is called Saint Lucia – you may have heard of the place!
You may have even been lucky enough to visit, none of us in the office have. Well not until one lucky sole turned up to work last Monday with a smile from ear to ear and a tan the surfers at Porthmeor Beach would be proud of. Unsurprisingly really, the first words spoken that Monday morning were from Mike ‘It’s a tough job but someone’s got to do it.’ – the cheek of it! Don’t worry, we soon put him back in his place with a heap of letters, emails and answer phone messages.
We couldn’t be too cranky at Mike, after all, his trip to the Caribbean was of course a business trip, which included several other UK based sports tour operators. Arranged by the Saint Lucia Tourist Board, with the incentive of promoting the island’s sport scene, especially cricket and building ties between local clubs, stadiums and hotels with the visiting sports tour agencies.
Sports Travel South West is an ambitious sports tour agency, an agency that aims to cater for all cricket tour budgets, whether our customers are after a long weekend in Newquay or two weeks in South Africa, or even the Caribbean! The reason why we can boast such an extensive range of cricket tour packages is because of the time and effort we take in personally visiting all of our destinations and experiencing the local cricket scene for ourselves, we then pass this knowledge onto our customers.
Essentially why we’re so confident in promoting both our UK based and international cricket tour packages, and excuse the cliché, is because we’ve been there and done it – our experiences and huge overseas contact network allow us to be experts in what we do.
Eight glorious days Mike spent travelling around the Caribbean island. The majority of the trip was focused around the north of the island, particularly Gros Islet – once a quiet fishing village, now one of the most popular tourist destinations in the country. However time was also spent travelling down both the east and west coasts, of course the most popular mode of transport was by boat. Day trips were also spent high within the island’s mountains, not by boat, visiting the famous sulphur springs and Toraille Waterfall.
Mike visited a total of ten hotels and resorts throughout his time on the island, all of which cater for different budgets and different needs, however all equally welcoming and charming. The hospitality really was first class, but what really sold the island to Mike was the sheer variety of activities on offer. Scuba diving, snuba diving (a mix of snorkelling and scuba diving – so we’re told!), deep sea fishing, sedgwaying, hiking, zip wiring, jungle biking, quad biking, horse riding… the list really is endless. The sedgwaying comes highly recommended by Mike, we’re told it’s not as hard as it looks. As the picture below shows, he even managed to stand up with his eyes closed, impressive!
Whatever you fancy, Sports Travel South West will ensure you make the most of your Saint Lucia cricket tour.
